Sustainability & HSE

Responsible mining across the lifecycle.

Sustainability is not a separate department at Terra-Tara. It is built into how we explore, operate and restore, across the full lifecycle of every site.

Our approach

A green-mining model, from baseline to rehabilitation.

We are developing a green-mining model that integrates renewable energy, waste recycling and land rehabilitation into the mining lifecycle, so that the value we create does not come at the expense of the land or the people around it.

Environmental impact assessments and rehabilitation planning start at the baseline stage, and host communities are treated as partners in how a site is developed and, eventually, restored.

Our commitments

Four commitments we hold ourselves to.

Green Mining Model

A pilot framework that integrates renewable energy, waste recycling and land rehabilitation into the full mining lifecycle.

Environmental Stewardship

Environmental impact assessments, rehabilitation planning and eco-friendly practices built into operations from the baseline stage.

Community Empowerment

Skill-acquisition programmes for women and youth, educational support for local schools, and provision of water, healthcare and rural electrification.

Water & Waste

Improved water recycling and tailings reprocessing that turn dormant waste into value while lowering the environmental footprint.

Communities

Shared value with the communities that host us.

  • Skill-acquisition programmes for women and youth
  • Educational support for secondary schools in mining-impacted communities
  • Provision of basic amenities: water, healthcare support and rural electrification
  • Stakeholder consultation and youth engagement from the earliest stage of a project

Progress so far

Putting the framework into practice.

  • Launched a strategic mineral exploration programme in Taraba State, including geological surveys, community engagement and environmental baseline studies.
  • Initiated early CSR programmes in Taraba, from stakeholder consultations to youth workshops and skills-training discussions for host communities.
  • Adopted a sustainable mining framework integrating environmental impact assessments, rehabilitation planning and eco-friendly practices across operations.
